Protecting Our Wireless Networks

The entire wireless ecosystem—network operators, device manufacturers, and operating system (OS) and application service providers—works together to develop industry-leading initiatives, engage in cross-sector collaboration, and devise risk-based management strategies. Every generation of wireless networks, from 2G to 4G, has meant stronger security, and as we move towards 5G and the IoT, CTIA members are working with industry standards bodies to build new security features and innovations into tomorrow’s wireless networks from the beginning.

CTIA Cybersecurity Advocacy

Everyone—consumers and businesses, lawmakers and regulators—has a stake in cybersecurity and a role in helping protect against cyber threats. Policymakers can help with flexible, technology-neutral approaches that let us innovate more quickly than our cyber adversaries. To ensure we can continue to innovate as fast as cyber threats do, CTIA advocates for voluntary, collaborative, industry-led efforts. CTIA also conducts research, convenes industry discussions, and educates policymakers on cybersecurity to champion policy outcomes and industry solutions that effectively combat cyber threats.

A Collaborative Ecosystem: CTIA's Working Group

With our Cybersecurity Working Group, CTIA leads a forum that brings together all sectors of wireless communications—including service providers, manufacturers and wireless data, internet and applications companies—to advise on policy and best practices. The CWG also drives CTIA’s efforts both with government entities like NIST, FCC, DHS, and the White House, and with other trade associations. The industry experts in CTIA’s Cybersecurity Working Group represent some of the world’s top companies and organizations.
