Social networking is a growing and compelling series of applications for mobile consumers seeking fun with a sense of community, and the trend is continuing to mobilize its way into the wireless sector. The Day Two keynote featured Facebook Co-Founder and Vice President of Engineering, Dustin Moskovitz, who talked about the importance of open platforms for getting a variety of mobile content and applications to the mobile user communities. CTIA President and CEO Steve Largent hosted the keynote session, and in the wake the series of fires in California, discussed the importance of the Wireless Foundation’s Text2HELP program in aiding the relief efforts.
Day Two also featured another round of informative CTIA Educational Sessions. These comprehensive, in-depth sessions are broken into four different "tracks" or categories—Mobile Enterprise, Mobile Entertainment, Mobile Data 2.0, and Policy Outlook—and addressed the most important issues facing the wireless industry.
The Lifestyle on the Run: Taking Social Networking Mobile educational session covered the new trend of social networking internet sites going mobile as a way to fully integrate their services with their customers’ lifestyles. This panel of experts bridged the gap between web-based communities and mobile users by providing insight into how mobile helps social networking communities increase the value they provide to members.During the Market Realities policy session, key policy makers discussed the realities of consumer behavior and the effects of market power in a competitive landscape.The panel reviewed some of the inherent differences and tensions in federal and state jurisdictional oversight of competitive markets.
